Fiber Optic Diklaim Sebagai Jawaban untuk Geografis Indonesia
Jakarta - Kontur geografis Indonesia yang berupa kepulauan menjadi alasan penggunaan fiber optic sebagai pilihan paling relevan.
Penilaian itu disampaikan oleh Ketua Mastel Institute yang juga mantan komisioner BRTI Nonot Harsono. Ia juga menekankan agar pioritas pembangunan infrastruktur ICT antara fixed dan mobile broadband harus berjalan pararel agar menciptakan sinergi dalam mencapai akselerasi pertumbuhan menuju revolusi digital yang digagas Presiden Jokowi.
"Pembangunan ribuan BTS untuk mobile broadband dengan pembangunan fixed access ke setiap rumah harus berjalan pararel. Sekarang kan belum, regulasi masih kurang menata jaringan kabel. Banyak pemain tapi tidak tertata siapa bangun apa dan di mana," ujarnya, melalui keterangan yang diterima.
Ia juga menambahkan, pembangunan kedua jaringan infrastruktur itu perlu ditata agar terpadu dan saling mendukung pemerataan. Jangan sampai di satu daerah, infrastruktur jaringan internet berlebih dan di daerah lainnya justru kurang.
Sementara itu, Plt Kepala Biro Humas Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika Noor Iza menjelaskan, saat ini penetrasi infrastruktur pita lebar akses jaringan internet kecepatan tinggi yang bergerak (mobile broadband) jaringan 4G secara nasional telah menjangkau 57,97% kabupaten & kota.
Sedangkan untuk infrastruktur pita lebar jaringan internet kecepatan tinggi yang tetap (fixed broadband) hingga akhir 2015 secara nasional baru menjangkau 400 kabupaten & kota.
"Secara tren juga bisa dilihat, kebutuhan masyarakat untuk konten-konten video dan layanan streaming sudah semakin marak. Oleh karena itu, sudah barang tentu jaringan fixed broadband (fiber optic) ke rumah (fixed to the home/FTTH) menjadi suatu kebutuhan untuk menopang digital life, sebagai komplementer jaringan seluler," katanya.
Apalagi mengacu data dari Mastel dan APJII, Noor Iza menyebut kalau 62,35% pengguna internet di Indonesia lebih sering mengakses internet di rumah dibandingkan di tempat umum atau kantor.
"Kehadiran teknologi yang super canggih seperti fiber optic sebenarnya bisa menjadi salah satu solusi pemerataan infrastruktur jaringan internet di Indonesia," imbuh Joseph Lembayung, pimpinan salah satu anggota APJII yang bergerak di bidang pembangunan infrastruktur
.
Joseph menjelaskan, kondisi geografis Indonesia yang luas, berkepulauan, pegunungan, perbukitan, dan pepohonan masih menjadi salah satu hambatan untuk memeratakan infrastruktur jaringan internet di seluruh Indonesia. Namun penggunaan fiber optik diyakini dapat menjadi solusinya, karena dapat terpasang di bawah laut sehingga mempermudah pembangunan di wilayah kepulauan Indonesia.
Di sisi lain, untuk masyarakat perkotaan jaringan internet fixed to the home (FTTH) sudah menjadi tren yang berkembang pesat.
"Kita lihat dewasa ini bisnis jual-beli baik barang maupun jasa online bisa dilakukan dari rumah," pungkasnya.
